Welcome To Sparta
Sparta is one of the city-states in Ancient Greece. It is also called "Lacedaemon". It is the chief city of the district Laconia. Sparta is located on the Peloponnesus, a peninsula southwest of Athens. That's why Athens' great rival is Sparta.
Sparta is known because of its professional training and military. They are extremely disciplined and well trained warriors who were taught never to give up in a battle no matter what the situation is. They would conquer their enemy or die trying.
The ruling class devoted itself to war & diplomacy, deliberately neglecting the arts, philosophy & literature, and forged the most powerful army standing in Greece.
Sparta prided itself not on art, learning, or great building structures, but on its brave and heroic men who "served their city in the place of walls of bricks"
When Spartan boys become adults, or near adults, they would be disciplined even more strict for the future, when they become the warriors. All male Spartan citizens must be between 20 to 60 to be in the army. They're allowed to marry women, but forbidden to have golds and silvers. War songs are their only music. No luxury is allowed, or talk about it. When they talk, they speak straight to the point.
There are 3 classes of inhabitants in Laconia. Spartan citizens who live in Sparta are ruled by the government and devoted their entire time to military training. The peroikoi or "dwellers-round" who lived in the surrounding villages, are free but had no political rights. There are tradesmen and mechanics occupations which are forbidden to the Spartans.
The Helots(serfs a little bit better than slaves) works at the farms and forced to prepare the soil for growing plants for the citizens who owned the land. These Helots, whose marriages and children were not so strictly controlled by the state, were the most numerous class and bitterly hated their masters. Only the amazing organization and fighting powers of the Spartan state could keep them under control.
Now you know a little bit about Sparta, you could explore by clicking the tabs above for more information about Sparta. Once you discover about them you'll never regret knowing about the amazing city-state of Greece. ->>> SPARTA
